How To Live A Christian Life Faced With Today’s Sexual Demands

Today’s post is addressed to those whose Christian belief system is being constantly challenged by society’s sexual expectations.  How does a Christian remain faithful to God’s Word,  gain acceptance and avoid isolation from peers whose behavior and expectations are in direct opposition to God’s Word? Is sexual promiscuity okay?  Is sex before marriage ok?  Is sex between partners of the same sex ok?  Are there answers to these questions in the bible?


Step One.  Believe in God. Know HE is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient [all powerful, everywhere at the same time, all knowing].

Step Two.  Study the Word. The bible contains His promises to us.  Learn and know them for yourself.

Step Three.  Test the Word. Take a small step of faith based on the teaching in His Word.

Exodus 22:16 – And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife.
Genesis 39:7-10 – And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.

1 Thessalonians 4:3-8 – For this is the will of God, [even] your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

Galatians 5:19-21 – Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

Colossians 3:5 – Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence   [covet or lust after], and covetousness, which is idolatry:

As can be seen from the above scriptures, sexual immorality was addressed in the first book of the bible [Genesis] and also several times in the New Testament.  Thus it is clear that sexual morality has been an issue for mankind throughout history.  God’s expectations have not changed for His believers and followers.  We, the believers, must not be conformed to the precepts of this world but to the requirements of our Heavenly Father.  Parents must help their children to build strong self-confidence in knowing who they are and whose they are.  Self-worth is not dependent on what others think of you.  Rather it is dependent on what you think of yourself.   Are you only popular and likeable when you are an easy to get sexual partner?  Are you an outcast [or fear being one] if you do not put out because everyone else does? Hmmm!  Unfortunately many young people, male and female, make the decision to have sex indiscriminately as a way to belong or be part of the group.  It is the responsibility of caring Christians to teach them the benefits of a Christian life.  This is best done through actions not words.  Mothers [especially single mothers] do your behaviors teach that sex without marriage is ok?  Fathers, do your behaviors teach it is ok to be unfaithful to your wife?

Why do so many face a crisis of sexual identity?  Why are so many attracted to like—male/male; female/female?  This too is not new.  However the changes in society’s views do not change God’s Word.

Leviticus 18:22King James Version (KJV)

22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

1 Cor. 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

Romans 1:

24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves,25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

It is our responsibility to know what God expects of us.  We learn this by study of His Holy Word.  Then we test His Word by stepping out on faith and believing HE will keep His Word.  This may seem hard to do.  Yet it requires just one small step.
